Why Plymouth, Minnesota is still consiered one of the best place to live…

When it comes to choosing a place to live in Minnesota, Plymouth stands out as one of the top contenders. A suburban city located just 15 miles west of downtown Minneapolis, Plymouth has long been celebrated for its family-friendly environment, excellent schools, abundant recreational opportunities, and overall high quality of life. Even as other communities evolve, Plymouth remains a top destination for those seeking a balance between urban convenience and a peaceful, suburban lifestyle. Here’s why Plymouth is still one of the best places to live.

1. Highly Ranked Schools

Plymouth is part of the renowned Wayzata School District, which consistently ranks among the best in the state. Parents often look to the educational system as a top priority when moving to a new area, and Plymouth delivers in this department. The district offers a wide array of academic programs, from Advanced Placement (AP) courses to special education services, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed. In addition to its public schools, Plymouth is also home to several private and charter schools, providing families with ample educational choices.

2. Abundant Parks and Recreational Activities

For nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, Plymouth is an oasis. The city boasts more than 1,000 acres of parkland and over 140 miles of trails, making it perfect for those who enjoy hiking, biking, or simply spending time outdoors. Residents can explore scenic parks such as French Regional Park, which offers a variety of activities, including fishing, canoeing, and picnicking. The city also provides year-round recreational opportunities, from summer concerts in the park to winter ice skating and cross-country skiing. Whether it’s enjoying a leisurely afternoon in the park or engaging in active outdoor pursuits, Plymouth has something for everyone.

3. Strong Economy and Job Opportunities

Plymouth’s proximity to Minneapolis and its location within the thriving Twin Cities metropolitan area make it an ideal spot for professionals seeking job opportunities. The city is home to a robust economy with a mix of industries, including healthcare, technology, and manufacturing. The nearby Interstate 494 corridor is a bustling hub for businesses, and residents of Plymouth have quick access to the business districts of Minneapolis and St. Paul. With its combination of high-paying jobs, lower unemployment rates, and proximity to major employers, Plymouth is an excellent place to grow a career.

4. Low Crime Rates and Safety

Safety is a key factor in any decision to move to a new city, and Plymouth consistently ranks as one of the safest cities in Minnesota. The Plymouth Police Department is highly regarded, and the city’s commitment to maintaining safe neighborhoods contributes to its reputation as a family-friendly destination. With its low crime rates and active community involvement, Plymouth provides residents with peace of mind knowing that their families are safe.

5. Convenient Location and Access to Amenities

Living in Plymouth means you can enjoy the tranquility of suburban life while still being just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of downtown Minneapolis. The city is well-connected via major highways like Interstate 494 and Highway 169, making commuting easy and convenient. Residents can take advantage of nearby shopping centers, restaurants, and entertainment options, such as the Ridgedale Center, a popular shopping mall. Plus, Plymouth’s proximity to major health care facilities, including the prestigious North Memorial Health, means residents have access to top-tier medical care.

6. A Welcoming Community

What truly makes Plymouth special is its sense of community. The city is home to a diverse population, and its residents are known for being friendly, engaged, and welcoming. Plymouth offers a range of community events throughout the year, from the Plymouth Harvest Festival to local farmers’ markets. These events foster a tight-knit atmosphere where neighbors come together, whether for a celebration or to simply enjoy a warm summer evening.

7. Affordable Housing Options

Plymouth provides a range of housing options to fit a variety of budgets and lifestyles, from spacious single-family homes to more affordable townhomes and apartments. The housing market in Plymouth offers a balance of value and quality, making it an attractive option for young professionals, growing families, and retirees alike. With its well-maintained homes and quiet residential neighborhoods, Plymouth offers a peaceful setting without the steep price tag seen in some larger cities.

8. Focus on Sustainability

Plymouth is dedicated to creating a sustainable, eco-friendly community. The city has implemented a variety of green initiatives, including programs for recycling, energy efficiency, and water conservation. Many of the city’s parks and recreational areas feature native landscaping and environmentally conscious designs. Plymouth also hosts sustainability events to engage residents in environmental stewardship, creating a community that values preserving natural resources for future generations.

9. Quality of Life

At the end of the day, Plymouth offers one of the best overall quality-of-life experiences in the Twin Cities. From its top-notch schools and safe neighborhoods to its ample green spaces and access to urban amenities, Plymouth provides the ideal setting for families, young professionals, and retirees alike. August 17th, 2024 Real Estate Compensation Changes

As you may have read or seen, there are several changes happening this week in regards to real estate transaction compensation and the showing process for homes. The first change is that a commission to a Buyer’s Agent can no longer be advertised in the MLS or Multiple Listing Service which is widely used throughout the industry. Some of the reasons this was put into place was to provide-

Increased Transparency
• Clearer Costs: Recent regulations often require more transparent disclosure of the total commission fees, including who is paying them. This helps buyers and sellers understand the true costs associated with transactions.
• Informed Decisions: Buyers and sellers can make better-informed decisions about their real estate transactions when they have a clear understanding of how commissions are structured and negotiated.
• Reduced Hidden Fees: Increased transparency can lead to fewer hidden fees and unexpected costs, allowing consumers to budget more accurately for their home purchase or sale.

Enhanced Competition
• More Options: As commissions and compensation structures become more transparent, real estate agents and brokers may be more inclined to compete on service quality and value.
• Better Service: With heightened competition, consumers might benefit from improved service as agents strive to differentiate themselves through better performance and customer service.
Overall, these changes aim to make the home buying and selling process more transparent for consumers, potentially leading to more satisfaction with their real estate transactions.

The Twelve Days of Giving

Here we are, mid-December. A time known to many as “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” But as I’ve had pointed out to me, the 12 Days of Christmas actually begins on December 25th and continues through January 6th, Epiphany. Never one to let the calendar hold me back (that and a packed travel schedule) I began my annual tradition of the 12 Days of Giving back in November with a discovery I made in New York City.

It is my practice to seek out places of worship in every destination I travel to and during my last trip to the Big Apple I happened upon Holy Trinity, holytrinitynyc.org and learned about their many outreach programs. One in particular, Lunch with Friends resonated with me and it was tremendously rewarding to donate a few holiday pies for this inclusive and welcoming endeavor, especially around this festive season.

Work has me spending time searching out opportunities in new destinations and one in particular that I’m getting acquainted with is San Juan, Puerto Rico. This beautiful island, still recovering in many areas from the tragic effects of Hurricane Maria has wowed me. One of the many reasons why – organizations like Union Church, unionchurchsj.org. They host the Original Christmas Bazaar and Music Festival, one of the largest bazaars of its kind in all of San Juan. They were happy to receive a few hundred cuties from the Beanie Baby collection to sell at the event. Funds raised at the bazaar are donated to organizations working with the homeless population in addition to supporting the ongoing operational needs of the church.

Thus far, back home in Minneapolis I’ve enjoyed visiting groups like One Heartland, oneheartland.org, the Masonic Children’s Hospital, mhealthfairview.org, and Essentia Health, essentiahealth.org with donations ranging from toys and stuffed animals to power tools. All are wonderful organizations that have important missions and purposes. It is definitely worth clicking on the links to their websites and checking out the great work they do.

While goods and financial contributions are always appreciated, there are other ways to donate that are equally meaningful.  If this time of year has a habit of draining one’s bank accounts, consider giving the gift of time. A few hours of volunteerism can make a huge difference. With so many noble organizations out there, it is easy to find a way to volunteer that suits your schedule and your passion. A few suggestions, courtesy of an email blast from US Bank;

  1. The gift of freedom: Send care packages to military personnel overseas. The USO, for example, takes donations that help provide technology resources for troops to connect with their families back home.
  2. Home for the holidays: Participate in a Habitat for Humanity project. Habitat helps families in need build strength, stability and self-reliance while building their own home alongside volunteers.
  3. Show kids how to shop smart: Teach basic financial education to youth at local schools through Junior Achievement. You don’t need to be an expert to sign up and you may even learn a thing or two yourself.

No matter how you give this holiday season, or when – during the 12 days, before it, or like me, all throughout, I encourage everyone to find something that resonates within themselves and get involved! Remember, its often times the littlest things that can make the biggest difference…

Happy Holidays, David.
